Be happy. It might sound like a simple request, but for some people, it’s not quite an easy emotion to acknowledge.
Different
people may interpret the feeling of happiness differently. Sometimes
feeling good about something does not always translate to the feeling of
being happy. Which means it could lead to a feeling of inferiority
where nothing is ever enough.
The actual word of ‘happiness’ itself is not something that would be easy to define, as the meaning would vary from person to person. Some experts define happiness as “a combination of life satisfaction and having more positive emotions than negative emotions,” while some others might view it as consisting of three parts: feeling good, living a ‘good life’ and the feeling of being a part of a larger purpose. There could also be a significant difference between short and long term happiness. When a short term happiness can be felt as a momentary feeling, and a long term happiness is how we would describe our lives.
While happiness itself is not easy to define, there are some things that one can do to make ourselves happy, because to be happy is not something that is difficult to achieve. It all depends in our state of mind!
1. Turn it up!
It’s probably a known fact already that listening to upbeat music can turn that frown upside down. And we cannot stress this enough! Also, listening to music with the goal if being happy may actually lead to greater happiness than simply listening for the sake of listening. So, don’t be afraid to turn it up if you feel like it!
2. Meditate
Meditating is definitely not as easy as it sounds, especially at this day and age when we cannot be away from our gadgets for more than a few minutes. But to be able to shut all those outside voices and connect with our inner peace is definitely something that can be highly rewarding!
3. Get it done!
Procrastination diminishes happiness. It’s a real simple thing to do - avoid putting off tasks and continue working towards your goals so that you can give yourself a mental boost.
4. Go outside more
Being outside is a great way to brighten your days. Living near green places is associated with better mental health, and even just looking at images of nature’s greeneries could stimulate the parts of your brain that is associated with happiness, positivity and emotional stability. Also, the exposure of the sun will help our bodies produce vitamin D. Just don’t forget to put on some sunscreen to protect your skin!
5. Sleep more
This last one seem like the one that is easiest to do. But unfortunately, not everybody could have that luxurious 8 hours of sleep everyday. The thing that could be done, is to steal some shut-eye time during the day. A few minutes of cat naps or power naps during the day could go a long way!
